GIFT

Lenten Prayer for GIFT

We begin with the sign of the cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

At the core of the Christian life is God’s call to leave behind all that comes between us and God, and all that obstructs our relationships with one another. During Lent we focus on learning to be better, more faithful people. We also look into ourselves to see if there are ways we can become more free, less self-centered, and more centered on the needs of others. We open ourselves to becoming more prayerful people.

Loving God, we thank you for the gift of Lent. Help us to observe it in ways that will help us to grow closer to you, to one another, and to our families. We pray in the name of Jesus the Lord.

AMEN

Lenten Reflection Questions

Is all the rush and busy-ness of my life really necessary? How can I find 5-10 minutes every day to spend quiet time so that I can free my mind to let God speak to me?

What are areas where I neglect myself and compromise my health? Am I eating the wrong foods, not getting enough sleep? Do I have any other addictive behaviors that make me less able to serve God and God’s people?

What can I do to live more simply during Lent? Do I have things I could pass on to others in need?  Do I have clothes, toys, or household items that I no longer use that I could give to someone who needs them more than I do?

What special thing can I do each day for someone I love? Can I do an extra chore or pick up my room at home without being asked? Can I go out of my way to be kind to someone?  Can I spend more time at home with my family?
